In a debate that lasted well into the early hours of Thursday morning, Argentina's senate voted 33-27 to make theirs the first country in South America to legalize same-sex marriage. Gay rights activists had predicted a close vote. According to reports, debate in Buenos Aires lasted until 4 a.m.

The first couples have tied the knot under Argentina’s historic law legalizing same-sex marriage. Jose Luis Navarro and Miguel Angel Calefato wed Friday morning in the city of Frias, Santiago del Estero Province. The two have been together for 27 years. Argentine president Cristina Fernandez signed the bill into law July 21, making her country the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage.
The Upper House of the Argentine Senate is tackling a bill that would amend the country's civil code to allow gay marriage.The country's lower house approved a gay marriage bill in May and a full vote in the Senate is expected on or before July 14.

Following Glee's more lesbian-than-Lilith Fair / “Ladies' Music Week” episode last week, this week's sectionals' episode left me longing for more of - frankly - the ladies!
