A firefighter in Bourne, Mass., has been terminated after posting antigay slurs on Facebook. Richard Doherty, a veteran firefighter of 16 years, reportedly used foul language and bigoted remarks last summer while slamming local police officers, his deputy fire chief, and the town of Bourne itself. Town Administrator Thomas Guarino said, “Firefighter Doherty has disqualified himself from the ability to serve as a firefighter because he elected to post on the Internet a message that causes the public to question whether he can serve all of its citizens.”

The major search engine's mapping program had changed their street name to something much more homophobic. That has the couple and their kids worried.

Bristol Palin took to Facebook to apologize, or not, for antigay slurs she and her sister wielded in response to a young man who criticized their mother Sarah Palin’s television show on the social networking site. The younger sister had used the antigay slurs against a Facebook friend who dared to suggest that the show Sarah Palin’s Alaska appeared to be a failure. Then Bristol, a reality TV personality in her own right from Dancing With the Stars, jumped to her sister’s defense.

A lesbian says she was the subject of antigay harassment by a foul-mouthed comedian. A hearing begins on Monday and comedian Guy Earle of Canada is alleged to have discriminated against Lorna Pardy by making defaming comments about her during an evening of stand-up in Vancouver. Pardy is seeking $20,000 in damages over antigay slurs. Pardy says Earle subjected her and her girlfriend to verbal heckling related to their appearance and gender.

A senior at George Washington University was charged in D.C. Superior Court Monday with beating another student while calling him antigay slurs, according to the school’s student newspaper. Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested senior Ross Richardson early Sunday morning in Ivory Tower, after he kicked and punched a fellow student while saying, “you fucking fag.”

The Navy officer behind a series of videos featuring simulated sex and antigay slurs will be temporarily removed of duty as early as Tuesday, Navy sources told NBC News on Monday. Capt. Owen Honors (pictured) currently commands the USS Enterprise. He reportedly produced the videos, which were shown the crew of the aircraft carrier in 2006 and 2007, while he was second in command.

Teen idol Justin Bieber plans to take a public stand against bullying after he was targeted with an antigay slur during a game of laser tag. Bieber, who is straight, was assaulted   by a 12-year-old boy during a game of laser tag in Richmond, British Columbia. The boy twice called Bieber a “faggot” and put his hand toward the singer, who pushed it away before he left.

A gay student at Emory University in Atlanta said that he was forcibly removed from an off-campus frat party over the weekend because of his sexual orientation, in an incident that included antigay slurs and cheering. The student, who wished to remain anonymous, attended a party hosted by the Sigma Nu fraternity. His costume of a lime-green jacket, red pants, and a wizard hat drew mocking attention from recent graduate Adam Smith.

Police in San Francisco have arrested a 15-year-old boy for his suspected role in a hate attack against a man on a Muni train earlier this month. the 26-year-old victim was exiting the J-Church line at Church at Market streets at 12:40 a.m. on August 14, when his backpack bumped one boy in a group getting on the train. The boy allegedly yelled an antigay slur and punched the victim in the face several times.

Students rallied Thursday night at two Ohio universities to protest a recent attack on two gay men and promote greater acceptance of LGBT people. The rallies, at the University of Cincinnati and Miami University in Oxford, were in response to an attack that occurred early in the morning of March 24. Miami student Michael Bustin and UC student Adam Voegele were holding hands as they walked home from an event on the Miami campus when they were attacked and beaten by four men who yelled antigay slurs. No arrests have been made.

The Navy officer behind a series of videos featuring simulated sex and antigay slurs has been permanently removed from his post as commander of the USS Enterprise, according to ABC News. ABC reported Tuesday morning that he had been temporarily relieved of duty pending an investigation. Tuesday afternoon two additional videos surfaced. Admiral John C. Harvey Jr., commander of Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., said Honors's "profound lack of good judgment and professionalism while previously serving as executive officer on Enterprise calls into question his character and completely undermines his credibility to continue to serve effectively in command."
