MTV’s LOGO has nominated LAN Airlines for the coveted “Best Airline” award in their second annual TripOut Gay Travel Awards. LAN Airlines is the only non-U.S. airline to be nominated for this accolade. American Airlines, Delta, Jet Blue, Southwest and Virgin America are also nominated.

Now this is flying first-class. 

Southwest Airlines is working to put Wi-Fi internet connection on every one of more than 500 planes in their fleet. After take-off, the system is set to turn on automatically at 10,000 feet and allow passengers to get online. In the battle to gain more passengers, Wi-Fi is the latest front. Everyday, airlines are buying more and more of the expensive systems. American Airlines is currently wiring dozens of 737s, Southwest is adding satellite domes on two more planes every week.

From the moment I entered the lobby of the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas this past Thursday night, I knew this wouldn’t be any ordinary concert experience. Here were thousands of people of every gender decked out in blonde wigs and high heels with lightening bolts scrawled across their faces and the same person on their t-shirts: Lady Gaga. When the moment finally came and Lady Gaga’s silhouette appeared to echoes of “I’m a free bitch,” it was obvious everyone’s vocal chords would be shot by the end of the show from screaming. Even the slightest movement of Gaga’s hips during the opener “Dance in the Dark” elicited shrieks from the devoted crowd.

After having been slandered by Rush Limbaugh for her congressional testimony on women’s health and contraception, Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke is being lambasted by other right-wingers for supporting insurance coverage of LGBT-specific health needs, such as gender-reassignment procedures.

TV funny lady Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately) will host the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 38th Anniversary Gala and Auction. The event will be laugh packed with equally outspoken honorees Wanda Sykes (The New Adventures of Old Christine) and Miss Coco Peru aka Clinton Leupp, (trick, Girls Will Be Girls). Handler is one of the LGBT community’s greatest straight allies. Advertising Week is being enlightened by a new subject this year: Gays & Lesbians, Know Them? The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and Publicis Groupe have joined forces to ask panelists this very important question with the hopes of changing hearts and minds and making the LGBT lifestyle more approachable in the media.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) released new anti-bullying PSA videos this morning, which feature celebrities speaking out against anti-LGBT bullying and direct viewers to the free downloadable resource kits available from GLAAD as part of the "Amplify Your Voice" campaign, and announced Spirit Day on October 20 (get ready to wear purple to show your spirit!).

On Saturday May 1st PFLAG honored Liza Minnelli at the Straight for Equality Awards Gala. Liza! (don’t you think her name should always be followed by an exclamation point?) was presented with the 2010 Straight for Equality in Entertainment Award, recognizing her lifelong role as a gay icon—oh sorry, I meant Straight Ally of the LGBT community.

Fresh off her Southwest Airlines kissing scandal Leisha Hailey spoke with Everything But Urban about her celebrity, Uh Huh Her and how she doesn’t exactly want to be the poster child for the LGBT community. To be fair, the interview may have been conducted prior to Sept 26, when Hailey started an internet firestorm by Tweeting that she and her girlfriend / band mate Camilla Grey were booted off of a Southwest flight for becoming upset when a flight attendant ordered them to stop kissing.
