A lot of progress has been made when it comes to LGBTQ+ inclusion and visibility in the sporting world, and even though that's a good thing, there are unfortunately still large swaths of people out there who still don't like seeing queer people included in their favorite forms of entertainment. Such was the case with one particularly nasty troll who, after learning of Wednesday night's All Elite Wrestling match between longtime wrestler Cody Rhodes and his out, queer opponent Sonny Kiss, decided to be hateful on the internet.
"You having a match with this low class f-----t he’s a joke that I’ll never take seriously," said an unnamed troll's hateful tweet about Sonny, who Gay Times reports identifies as genderfluid and goes by both she and he pronouns. "He twerks in the ring like a stripper one of his moves is banging your face into his ass really?!!"
Luckily, Cody had no patience whatsoever for the homophobia being aimed Sonny's way, and was very quick to shut it all down.
"This is terrible. And you’re not worth the signal boost," Cody said in a quote-tweet of the hateful message (that has since been deleted by the original poster). "But I’ll make this clear to fans worldwide. If you have a problem with a gay man receiving a title shot, you can kiss my ass. I’m proud to share the ring with Sonny."
This isn't the first time Cody has stuck up for the queer community. Back in June, he teamed up with The Trevor Project to sell rainbow-colored wrestling t-shirts with the proceeds benefiting LGBTQ+ youth.
Here's a lesson for everyone: if you see hate being spewed at a queer person for absolutely no reason at all, please be like Cody and take care of it expeditiously!
