5 Reasons Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is a National Treasure

Super Bowl 50 was this past Sunday, and although the Carolina Panthers lost to the Denver Broncos, we're still focused on one thing — Panthers quarter back and national treasure Cam Newton.

Maybe it's his infectious smile. Maybe it's the swagger he exudes that commands the room. Whatever it is, there's just something about Cam that has us, and most of America, swooning over the football extraordinaire.

In an effort to try to explain the phenomenon that is his eternal awesomeness, here are a few reasons we think Cam Newton is the absolute king of football (and everyone's hearts):

1. He defended Michael Sam when he first came out as gay.

In an interview with ESPN in 2014, after Michael Sam's coming out, Cam went on the record saying that the openly gay football player would totally be welcome in the Carolina Panthers locker room.

"His job is a linebacker...We don't worry about each other outside of football. Of course we have, 'Are you OK? Is there anything I can help you with?' But the main focus is, we're football players. We're here in this organization for one reason and one reason only. And if you're able to help us attain that winning success, your personal life is your personal life."

2. His endzone dances/celebrations are second to none.

Cam is the king of end zone dances. This may be up for debate with some NFL fans, but until you can find another player who can dab on them folks or serve up some superman better than King Newton, there is no argument.

3. Unlike some other NFL stars, he's humble.

After a 2008 arrest during his college days that led to mandatory community service hours, Cam made the decision to stay on the right path, which eventually led to him graduating with a degree from Auburn University and becoming one of the youngest, most successful QBs in the NFL right now. And what was the advice that let him to success, you ask? "Be humble or be humbled."

4. His style game is a gift straight from the fashion gods.

C'mon, who else do you know has the confidence to rock these kind of stripped Versace pants?!

5. He has the biggest heart.

Besides football, Cam Newton has a profound passion for helping others, especially young children in need. That makes him AWESOME in our book. *sheds tear*
