Brittney Griner Goes Above the Rim in FIBA World Championships
Brittney Griner makes history with a dunk against China.
Fresh off a WNBA championship, Brittney Griner has taken her skills to Istanbul as a member of the U.S. National Team competing in the FIBA World Championship. In the U.S. opener on Saturday, Griner put up 15 points, including the first dunk in women’s world championship history, to help lead the States to an 87-56 victory over China.
The dunk came early in the first quarter — a moment of first-half brightness for the Americans, who led only by seven at the half. In the second half, however, they outscored China by 13 points, effectively cementing their victory.
Griner had 10 points and led the U.S. in blocked shots in its 94-74 victory over Serbia on Sunday. The next game for the United States will be Tuesday, as they take on Angola.
