The US women’s national team started their quest for Olympic gold today in Glasgow, Scotland, squaring off against, and defeating France 4-2, in the opening round of the tourney.
France came out fighting and scored two quick goals, one in the 12th minute by Thiney and one in the 14th minute by Delie.
But that was no problem for the US squad, they answered with four in a row to win their first match and collect 3 points in their group. The four US goals, two by Alex Morgan, one by Abby Wambach and a laser by Carli Lloyd was more than enough to put the ladies in the win column.
Megan Rapinoe, who, incidentally, came out in Out earlier this summer, had two assists and Tobin Heath and Hope Solo each had one on the day. Is it possible to love this team more?
Their next match is Saturday, July 28th at noon ET against Colombia. Unfortunately, the ladies will not be able to attend the opening ceremonies on Friday night in London because of their afternoon game on Saturday in Scotland.
Stay tuned for Olympics coverage throughout the games.
