Sam Smith just released a new single from his upcoming album, The Thrill of It All, which is set to drop on November 3! The new song, entitled "Pray," was produced by legendary music producer Timbaland. It has a slow gospel feel, and in classic Sam Smith fashion, it’ll leave you on the verge of tears.
Smith told Billboard that the song was inspired by a trip he took to Iraq last year with the charity, War Child.
After spending five days in Mosul, he came back embarrassed that he had known so little about the struggle of others.
"I went back to that great Nina Simone quote, that it is important to speak about the times you live in. I hadn’t done that," said Smith. "I’d just written a bunch of songs about love. So I wanted to write about how I’m now starting to open my eyes, at 25, to what is going on in the rest of the world, and that it’s not always pretty."
In addition to the new song and album release date, Smith also released the dates for his upcoming 2018 tour, which you can find here.
