The purple McDonald's Mascot's milkshake is bringing all the boys to the yard.
Grimace, is making waves as a pride icon and beloved figure among social media users. The fast-food chain has seized the opportunity to celebrate Grimace's birthday with a marketing promo featuring a limited edition "Grimace's Birthday Meal" and a new purple shake, which was launched on June 12.
The launch of the Grimace shake has piqued curiosity about its flavor. Described as "berry" flavored, the shake has been compared to cereal-milk by one reporter. Meanwhile, TikTokers have been enthusiastically ordering the Grimace Birthday Meal, engaging in cursed cosplay, and even celebrating "mother Grimace" by vaping.
While fans have embraced Grimace with fan art and other creative works, it raises questions about the reasons behind this newfound popularity. Is it because McDonald's has embraced campiness, or is Grimace now considered a queer icon due to their birthday coinciding with Pride Month? It is uncertain, but despite traditionally being referred to with he/him pronouns, women have also portrayed Grimace for TV and commercial appearances, which would make Grimace a nonbinary part of the fam.
Adding to the mix, a spoof commercial has emerged, featuring an imagined Grimace burger made from actual Grimace meat, complete with undulating fur. Watch below and scroll for some of the best reactions to the birthday meal.
