The 2023 Out100 list dropped today and featured actor Andrew Scott, who’s set to appear in the queer romance All of Us Strangers alongside Paul Mescal later this year.
Best known for playing the “Hot Priest” on Fleabag, Jim Moriarty on Sherlock, and C in Spectre, Scott has been an out gay actor for many years now. With so much anti-LGBTQ+ discourse being pushed by conservative forces around the world, Scott used his platform in the Out100 to issue a message of defiance for queer people.
“I think sometimes there’s a notion in the world that sexual politics has only reared its head in the 20th and 21st centuries alongside the media age,” Scott told Out, “whereas different sexualities have existed since the dawn of humanity, and always will.”
He continued, “Quite simply, being queer is as natural as the grass growing. Don’t let anyone, no human, no law, no book, tell you different.”
Scott plays Adam in All of Us Strangers – a character who has a chance encounter with Harry (Paul Mescal) and develops a queer love story with him. The film also includes ghosts of Adam’s late parents who are played by Jamie Bell and Claire Foy.
Besides All of Us Strangers, Scott is attached to other projects like Ripley (where he’ll play the titular character of Tom Ripley) and Back in Action (starring alongside Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, and Glenn Close, to name a few).
It’s incredible to see such a talented actor like Andrew Scott landing so many opportunities and speaking up for our LGBTQ+ community during these trying times.
All of Us Strangers premieres December 22 in theaters.
