The ongoing health pandemic has many people all around the world locked up in their houses, and while it's good for the safe and healthy of the global community, it can also get kinda...boring AF. So how do you cure that boredom when you've already rewatched all of your favorite shows and have already cleaned every single inch of your apartment? Well, boyfriends Spenser Mestel and Kris Kelkar are getting creative with photography!
Since lockdown started a few weeks ago, the couple has started their own "Quarantine Diaries" photo series where they post daily pictures of looks inspired by popular culture and life. And the results have been super cute so far!
"Kris had the idea pretty early on. He works as a data scientist but was taking photos as a hobby, especially for stand-up comics around NYC, and he wanted to keep that up," Spenser told PRIDE about the inspiration to start the series. "Overall, it's a lot of fun, but it also gets tense. We don't plan ahead of time (oops!), and if we're both busy during the day we don't even figure out our idea until 11 that night. At that point, we're both pretty cranky, but it's more fun to argue about who gets to be Rose or which one of us has to make the kissing booth sign than it is to argue about who should take out the trash, though we do that a lot, too."
He continued:
"At the beginning, I was nervous because I can't edit photos, make props, or draw, so I didn't think I'd bring much to the table, but we've made it work. I'm a journalist, so I get really into thinking of the story behind the photo (like the ones we did forJaws, limbo, and the detectives). Kris has a great eye for composition and how to make the ideas better and more practical. For example, I wanted to do screaming fans outside a concert, and Kris was the one who turned it into Swifties v. the BeyHive."
"I'm thankful we're able to do something silly each day, and if we weren't taking these photos, we'd probably never stop watching The Good Wife," Spenser added. "Also, I never had any sympathy for the Drag Race queens who can't sew, but making a garment is no joke, so I've really grown as a person."
