The Informant star and lesbian film darling Melanie Lynskey recently said that thinking about her Heavenly Creatures' costar Kate Winslet's uber-success makes her cry, according to USA Today.com
The duo played real-life murderous teens obsessed with being together in Peter Jackson's 1994 film Heavenly Creatures. And shortly after that Winslet's career skyrocketed, landing her in Sense and Sensibility, Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Reader and several other heavy hitters.
Meanwhile, Lynskey, a native Kiwi, became a darling of lesbian cinema playing in But I'm a Cheerleader, the short The Nearly Unadventurous Life of Zoe Cadwaulder, Itty Bitty Titty Committee and on television inThe L Word as a possible paramour for Leisha Hailey's Alice.
Lynskey, who was in Toronto promoting Steven Soderbergh's The Informant, starring Matt Damon, said that she and Winslet had lost touch after their searing debuts together in Creatures.
But the pair got reacquainted when Lynskey starred in Winslet's husband Sam Mendes' Away We Go.
"We were super-close for a few years. She got so famous and busy and we lost touch completely. It was really nice to catch up with her. I hadn't seen her since she had children. How amazing. I'm so proud of her," Lynskey said.
Regarding Winslet's Oscar win for The Reader this year Lyskey said cried for her pal. "I'm going to cry thinking about it. I cried so much when she won the Oscar. She's had that dream for herself -- I've never met anyone more focused or more ambitious. I adore her and I respect her so much."
