Criminal Minds star Kirsten Vangsness and her longtime girlfriend Melanie Goldstein plan to marry this spring in Texas, although same-sex marriage is only recognized in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
"We're going to get married in Texas because her parents have this great place there. And since it's not official anywhere until things change -- which I have total confidence that they will — we're going to do it there just to completely thumb our nose (show scorn) at the government," Vangsness, who's played Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds since its 2005 premiere, told People.
The actress said she's hopeful that under Barack Obama's leadership and government that same-sex marriage laws will change.
She also told People she was surprised by her desire to get married.
"I never thought I would want to do it," Vangsness said. "Then when you meet the person, you're like, 'I want to marry you. I don't care if there's a law against it!'
