Chaz Bono came out last night and walked with girlfriend Jennifer Elia the red carpet at LA's Outfest premiere of Benjamin Bratt's movie La Mission, according to Dlisted.
In an interview with ET, an enthused Bratt commented about Chaz's attendance saying ""I think it's pretty auspicious, I think it takes a great deal of courage to be here and be part of that personal celebration. I've never met him, but I'm looking forward to it tonight, so we're happy to be here."
Chaz, born to Sonny Bono and Cher, recently announced via his publicist Howard Bragman that he had begun transitioning from female to male.
Kristen Schaffer, Outfest's executive director, added "I am excited for Chaz that he will now be able to live life the way he wants to and in a body that is more comfortable for him.Chaz's 'coming out' as transgender is wonderful for the LGBT community as it not only increases transgender visibility, but also shows that we should never compromise our own identity.""
This marks Chaz's first public appearance since announcing that he had began undergoing a sex change shortly after his 40th birthday on March 4.
