Barbie turns 50 next week and the iconic toy is celebrating big. Birthday festivities launched with an awesome fashion show where top designers recreated 50 of the doll’s must memorable looks. Mock-barbies, played by models, donned dresses designed by big guns including Marchesa, Diane von Furstenberg, Nicole Miller, Tommy Hilfiger, and Betsey Johnson.
The fiercest fashion designers all agreed: Barbie at her impossible proportions is an undeniable muse.

But one West Virginian representative is not a fan of the Mattel toy. Democrat Jeff Eldridge has introduced his Barbie Ban Bill in the state house. Eldridge complains such toys influence girls to place too much importance on physical beauty, at the expense of their intellectual and emotional development.
"I just hate the image that we give to our kids that if you're beautiful, you're beautiful and you don't have to be smart," Eldridge told West Virginia news station WOWK.
"I knew a lot of people were going to joke about it and poke fun at me," Eldridge continued. "I couldn't get anybody to sign on the bill with me but I said I'm still going to introduce it."
