A Democrat, Sarah beat Republican Steve Washington in Delaware’s senate race, making her the highest-ranking out transgender lawmaker in the nation, with state Senates being the upper legislative house, our sister site The Advocate reports.
"I hope tonight shows an LGBTQ kid that our democracy is big enough for them, too," Sarah tweeted shortly after the news of her victory.
