Popular chicken-based fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A still has ties with organizations that support anti-LGBT causes.
According to a report by Eater, the 2017 tax filings for the Chick-fil-A Foundation (the charitable division of the Chick-fil-A company) show that "$1.65 million was donated to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which imposes a ban on 'homosexual acts' for its employees (as well as a general 'sexual purity' policy)." Eater also reported that the Chick-fil-A Foundation donated sums of money to the Salvation Army and the Paul Anderson Youth Home, two organizations with a recorded anti-LGBT history.
The news of Chick-fil-A's continued antiqueer donations is a stark contrast to a statement the company put out in November 2018 about how they didn't want to be perceived as anti-gay anymore.
"Chick-fil-A is a restaurant company focused on food, service and hospitality, and our restaurants and licensed locations on college campuses welcome everyone," Chick-fil-A's attorney said in the published statement following controversy about New Jersey's Rider University blocking the fast-food chain from opening a location on their campus because of their anti-LGBT reputation. "We have no policy of discrimination against any group, and we do not have a political or social agenda. More than 120,000 people from different backgrounds and beliefs represent the Chick-fil-A brand."
But actions, (and in this case, donations) speak louder than words.
So the next time you have a craving for a chicken sandwich or some waffle fries, maybe you should think twice about where your money is really going...
