Elizabeth Warren Had the Best Comeback to Someone Against Gay Marriage
CNN’s LGBTQ Town Hall took place last night, and while there were a number of worthwhile takeaways from the evening (and a few missteps — looking at you, Joe Biden and Chris Cuomo), one moment in particular is making the rounds across the internet this morning.
Morgan Cox from the Human Rights Campaign had a question for Elizabeth Warren, who released a staggeringly comprehensive plan for LGBTQ equality prior to the town hall yesterday.
“Let’s say you’re on the campaign trail and a supporter approaches you and says, ‘Senator, I am old fashioned, and my faith teaches me that marriage is between one man and one woman.’ What is your response?” he asked.
Warren didn’t hesitate for a moment before letting him know she would assume it’s a guy who asked that.
“And I’m gonna say, ‘Then just marry one woman. I’m cool with that,’” she quipped.
The audience erupted in cheers and Warren waited for them to die down before adding the real killer for this imaginary bigot: “Assuming you can find one.”

While her response is deliciously brutal, the senator responded to a follow-up question asking if she herself had ever been against same-sex marriage by saying she had truly always been raised to believe that every human being had value, regardless of their differences.
“The hatefulness, frankly, always really shocked me, especially from people of faith. Because I think the whole foundation is the worth of every single human being. And I get that people may make decisions for themselves that are different than the decisions other people make. But by golly, those are decisions about you. They are not decisions that tell other people what they can and cannot do.”
