Man Sues Apple After iPhone App 'Turned Him Gay'
"Apple pushed me towards homosexuality through manipulation," reads the lawsuit.
A Russian man believes an iPhone app turned him gay, and now he's suing Apple in Moscow’s Presnensky District Court.
Represented by lawyer Sapizhat Gusnieva, D. Razumilov says he ordered Bitcoin via a smartphone app but instead received a cryptocurrency called "GayCoin." The cryptocurrency arrived with a note that read, "Don't judge until you try," reports ABS-CBN News.
"I thought, in truth, how can I judge something without trying? I decided to try same-sex relationships," Razumilov wrote in the lawsuit. "Now I have a boyfriend and I do not know how to explain this to my parents...my life has been changed for the worse and will never become normal again."
He's now seeking one million rubles ($15,000) for "moral suffering and harm to mental health," claiming that the situation is "serious," and that he's "scared, he suffered."
"Apple pushed me towards homosexuality through manipulation," he wrote. "The changes have caused me moral and mental harm."
According to The Advocate, "Russia is no leader in LGBTQ equality or acceptance. The Eastern-European country passed its notorious 2013 'gay propaganda' law, which prohibits any positive mention of LGBTQ identity in a venue accessible to minors. It has also allowed credible reports of the persecution and killing of queer people in Chechnya, a republic the country oversees, to go uninvestigated."
Razumilov and Gusnieva believe that the tech company "has a responsibility for their programs" and their court date is set for October 17.
