Newly sworn-in congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a known RuPaul's Drag Race fan, gave credit to drag queen and current RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars season 4 contestant Monique Hart, after she used Hart’s catchphrase “Facts are facts, America” in a recent tweet.
The tweet came amid a recent Washington Post fact check of Ocasio-Cortez that claimed the lawmaker misled her Twitter followers about potential Pentagon accounting errors.
However, a follow-up article posted on Salon and quote-tweeted by the New York congresswoman argued that the Post unfairly critiqued Ocasio-Cortez in an effort to appeal to "both-sides-ism,” wrongly equating Ocasio-Cortez’s failure to include a “somewhat intricate, detailed disclaimer about the unaccounted for Defense spending” to the bold lies spouted by DonaldTrump.
The congresswoman has recently been singled out by conservatives and has faced intense scrutiny from the right, including audible boos after she voted to confirm Rep. Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House and a backfired attempt to embarrass her by unearthing an old video from college.
RuPaul recently voiced his own support for Ocasio-Cortez, tweeting on Sunday, “Dear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @AOC I ask that you guide my thoughts, my feelings and my perceptions. AMEN.”
