After centuries of feeling forced to confine to stereotypical gender roles, Santa Claus finally feels comfortable embracing his feminine side.
Yesterday, A New Zealand shopping mall unveiled a giant gender neutral Santa Claus as its main Christmas display.
In this delightful rendition of St. Nick, the jolly ol’ gift-giver is modelled after Mary Poppins, carrying her iconic umbrella and a carpet bag "full of presents," according to the Ponsonby Central Complex in Auckland, where the gender nonconforming Santa is displayed.
"Our representation of Santa can be Mary Poppins or whatever race/gender/persuasion we prefer and can imagine," a spokesperson for the mall complex told Newshub.
He continued, "The Coca-Cola company doesn’t have a monopoly on what he/she looks like."
On Facebook, Ponsonby Central called its gender non-conforming Santa “a wee bit cheeky," which they undoubtedly are with their knickers and fishnets showing.
We can’t wait for what fabulous gender-inclusive gifts this Santa will bring us this year!
