Sense8 is Coming Back for a Super Queer Christmas Special
The Wachowskis are giving fans the best gift ever.
Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski are giving fans of the surreal sci-fi series Sense8 the best Christmas present ever this year—a two-hour Christmas special that debuts on Netflix Friday, December 23. The long-anticipated second season premieres on May 5, 2017.
When Sense8 premiered on Netflix on June 5, 2015, the series joined the ranks of shows like Netflix’s Orange is the New Black or Amazon’s Transparent. The notable representation of LGBT characters (according to Lana Wachowski all eight sensates are pansexual), creation and direction by transgender women, and casting of Jamie Clayton as fan-favorite hacktivist Nomi Marks make Sense8 one of the queerest shows on television (or on your laptop). The series won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2016.
Though every sensate is pansexual, we’re definitely looking forward to catching up with our favorite couples, Lito (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and Hernando (Alfonso Herrera), and Nomi and Amanita (Freema Agyeman), in the Christmas special. The trailer hints at the fallout of Lito being outed, while Nomi and Amanita seem to be enjoying a happy Christmas in San Francisco. The trailer also shows Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) being bailed out of trouble by Sun’s (Doona Bae) kickboxing moves. Jonas (Naveen Andrews) also pops up to say something doom-and-gloomy to the sensates.
