6 Times America Ferrera Handed Donald Trump's Ass to Him in Her Op-Ed
In a sarcasm-riddled response to Donald Trump's absurd comments about Mexican immigrants, America Ferrera, in a Huffington Post op-ed, thanked the 2016 Presidential candidate for helping get more Latinos to the polls. The Honduran-American actress used her prominence and her eloquence to masterfully deliver the news that all Trump really did was galvanize the Hispanic community. Here are six ways she handed his ass to him.
1. When she flipped the script.
Rather than call him out for all his racist bigotry in a scolding tone, she took the angle of thanking him. "You see, what you just did with your straight talk was send more Latino voters to the polls than several registration rallies combined! Thank you for that." She has a great point. Sound bites like the one Trump gave to Hispanic activists are goldmines. People might not always be motivated to the polls because someone said something good, but they will definitely mobilize as soon as someone with that much ignorance tries to gain power.
2. When she made him regret targeting Latinos in particular.
"Latinos are the largest, youngest and fastest-growing constituency in the United States of America. That's right! You are running for President in a country where the Latino population grew by over 49 percent from 2000-2012, while the rest of the country grew by 5.8 percent." Look at that painful truth bomb! He could have pissed off a smaller segment of the country, but instead he chose to go after a massive voting block.
3. When she showed him how antiquated his views are now.
"You, Mr. Trump, are living in an outdated fantasy of a bigoted America. Last week, America celebrated some amazing milestones -- marriage equality, universal healthcare, removing of the confederate flag -- making it clear in which direction the country is moving." In other words, we are leaving you behind in your bigoted wasteland, old man. And we're taking all the good stuff with us.
4. When she alluded to the Hispanic community's allies.

"Our fellow Americans who understand and value our contributions will join us. We know there is nothing that scares you more." There are a lot of us non-Hispanic allies, ready to vote with our conscience. We know what Latinos have done for our country, and we know they have more than earned their seat at the table.
5. When she reminded him of our nation's history.

"The truth is, Mr. Trump, that your comments mean that you fail to see that immigrants are what have made this nation. They are at the core of our ideals, and they are the foundation that keeps us afloat." The vast majority of Americans today can trace their lineage past our borders. Our economy and infrastructure relies, as it always has, on the contributions of immigrants and their descendants. Have you forgotten your own family's history, Donald?
6. When she reminded him of Latinos' humanity.
"No, Mr. Trump, you may not reduce us to drug dealers and rapists. We are moms and dads, sons and daughters. We are valedictorians and honor students. We are college graduates, bankers, police officers, entertainers, teachers, journalists, politicians and we are the future of America."
