The performance was bathed in pink and the sexiest set of the night.
Leave it to Lil Nas X to wake it up.
After shaking up the red carpet in a lilac custom Atelier Versace look that combined the ideas of a suit and a gown, Lil Nas X hit the stage for his big performance. But before he did, his elder in sartorial excellence Billy Porter gave him an introduction, reflecting on how things have changed since Porter was younger. Nas X made sure to show that change on stage.
The performance started with the young performer leading a marching band. It was at once a shout out to Spongebob — which he often references — and also possibly Beyonce's "Homecoming" performance at Coachella. Then, seemingly high on adrenaline, The performer made his way around the elaborate set, stripping off the marching band uniform and into his uniform for Montero State Prison.

The performance was initially "Industry Baby," with all the prison yard choreography that we remember from the video. Even collaborator Jack Harlow came out for his verse. But at its end, the track began to mix in "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" and the star appeared in bedazzled boxer briefs. And then, yep, right on stage he segued into a choreography set that blended the shower scene with the writhing body choreography we are used to from "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)."

Truly a moment we won't forget anytime soon.
