In news that's being widely reported, James Parnell Spears, known to many as Jamie Spears, father of Britney Spears, has filed a petition to end the star's 13-year conservatorship for which he has served as conservator. Over the past few years, Britney Spears has fought to have her father removed as her conservator going so far as to say she was being abused and used.
According to NBC, Jamie Spears' new petition says that Britney "is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required." It also says that her circumstances have changed and she may no longer need a conservator. It is not clear if Jamie specified those changes.
"The conservatorship has helped Ms. Spears get through a major life crisis, rehabilitate and advance her career, and put her finances and her affairs in order. But recently, things have changed," the filing said according to NBC. "Ms. Spears is now outspoken in her frustration with the level of control imposed by a conservatorship, and has pleaded with this Court to 'let her have her life back.'"
Britney Spears has been vocal and adamant in her fight against the conservatorship. Her new lawyer Mathew Rosengart has been just as adamant and vocal, moving the case forward in ways that had not been done previously.
