With quarantine relenting, we're ready to feel all the things and Blew Velvet's new single "It's Not Enough" feels like all of those things and more.
A new dance ballad, the track is the third and final single off the New York City-based artist's new EP Touch Me. According to them, the song discusses the plight of a cruising queer who just can't scratch that itch. (For the baby queers in the room: cruising is when you go to a public place and wordlessly pick up others, generally with the intent to hook up). But as much as its about these sort of NSA encounters, the song was also written at the end of a long-stance relationship and revolves around that experience as well.
"I’ve got a memory, something I know I need, something that I can feel, even if you’re not here," he croons. "More than your touch. Not just your touch. I want it so much. It’s not enough. It’s something more. Need something more."
The song is the exact vibe we're trying to get lost in as we spiral out on dance floors for the rest of Hot Slut Summer 2021.
The music video is a collaboration between Velvet and Matt Sparks, the director and videographer. We watch Velvet, wearing pieces from the Brooklyn-based brand Pinwheel, twist and bend, interspersing clips of writhing bodies, blown out footage of foliage, and more, before climaxing in a scene of dancing lights.
The EP, Touch Me, is a collection of songs about heartbreak, reconciliation, and the internal process of yearning. It will release this fall.
