Joy Oladokun's New Track 'Sunday' Will Give You All the Feels
And PRIDE has the exclusive premiere of the music video!
One of the hardest things about growing up in the closet is all the guilt and shame we feel for having to hide a huge part of ourselves, but once we're finally able to embrace who we are, it is such a freeing feeling—a feeling that is captured perfectly in singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun's emotional new track "Sunday."
"The biggest privilege of being a songwriter is being able to write the type of song that I needed to hear when I was younger," Joy said in a statement about the song. "'Sunday' is the song that 12-year-old Joy, seated in the back of church youth group, needed to hear. She needed to hear that you can be queer and happy. Queer and healthy. Queer and holy. She needed to see married women kissing and playing with their kids."
She continued:
"My hope is that this song comes across as a love letter not only to the LGBTQIA community, but also to those on the outside looking in who have long misunderstood that we all want the same things. We all have the right to the same things."
