We all have those songs that are forever ingrained in our coming-of-age stories. Songs that gave us hope, played during our first kiss, helped us feel fierce, or simply helped us understand ourselves a little bit better. This is oftentimes particularly true for LGBTQ artists.
Throughout the month of June, and only on PRIDE, LGBTQ+ artists are curating and sharing playlists that reflect their formative years—their Soundtracks of Pride.
Cub Sport frontman Tim Nelson handpicked a playlist of songs that helped him in his formative years.
"I was kind of sheltered from the queer world growing up," Nelson told PRIDE. "I was raised in a religious environment and being queer was most often associated with shame rather than pride. I repressed a lot of emotions and feelings as a way to try and be the person I thought I was meant to be but music was something that made me feel connected to my myself. It turns out a lot of my favourite songs growing up were by queer artists and allies! This playlist is a mix of old and new songs that make me feel understood and emotionally connected."
