Sufjan Stevens Has Blessed Us With Two New Songs for Pride
Sufjan Stevens has released two new songs for Pride month!
The singer’s website says that “Love Yourself” is based on a sketch Stevens wrote back in 1996, and an old demo of that song was released alongside the new version.
Sufjan says the second song, “With My Whole Heart,” is a brand new piece born from his desire to “write an upbeat and sincere love song without conflict, anxiety, or self-deprecation.”
Both songs fail to specify any gender, making them inclusive for just about anyone who might be listening — and lending to the longstanding speculation over Sufjan’s own sexuality.

The Pride-themed music follows the 2017 release of two songs Stevens wrote for the film Call Me By Your Name, with “Mystery of Love” featuring in the trailer.
And these new songs aren’t the only thing Stevens came out with for Pride — he’s also got a limited edition shirt (described on his website as a “Gay Pride T-shirt”) that says “Sufjan” in each color of the rainbow.
Plus, a vinyl release of the new music is planned for June 28th, with part of the sales benefiting LGBTQ homeless kids by way of the Ali Forney Center and the Ruth Ellis Center.
