PRIDE sits down and spills some tea with rising vocal powerhouse and pop star, VINCINT!
He opens up about his experience on reality TV singing competition The Four, picks his favorite cover that he sang on the show, and shares some empowering words he received straight from the mouth of Diddy himself.
"What people don't know is that he's a great guy," says the "Please Don't Fall In Love" singer. "The conversations that we had and the moments of him being super supportive and knowing who I was as an artist and also being gay, I was kind of taken aback." In one moment, Diddy told VINCINT, "You're a Black gay man, you're the first one out here doing this and you should do this well." Of the memory, VINCINT says, "It was really nice to know that was in him."
The musician also shares some thoughts on feeling boxed in a genre and some of the challenges facing Black artists in the pop music world.
"It's different when the girls get out," he contemplates. "The white girls with the blond hair, that's what you think pop looks like. No shade towards them because they're doing their thing, but that's not just what pop looks like. It's not just Arianas and Taylors and Britneys. There are plenty of Black gay male artists out here who make incredible pop music, who write most of the songs you hear, but they never get the notoriety or recognition because that's not what pop looks like. I'm not about that life and I'm not about to take that."
VINCINT says his debut EP is slated for the top of 2020, and we can't wait to see what's coming!
