"I wanted to show that a man can sing the blues about how his man left him too."
Mike Maimone felt freedom when writing his upcoming EP The High Hat Club because "finally singing openly about other men feels natural, and very liberating."
The Ohio-born songwriter didn't come out to his conservative family until the age of 30 and wanted to express what he hadn't heard in music before.
"There are a million [straight] blues songs. I wanted to show that a man can sing the blues about how his man left him too," says the multi-talented musician. He aims to share his life experience with others in a way that connects folks from different walks of life. His new music video for "Hey Now" features a delightfully diverse cast of dancing LGBTQ artists from Chicago including musician Stella Steel and drag performer Sofia Saffire. The video is too fun and too queer not to check out.
Enjoy The High Hat Club when it drops on September 14! And check out more music from Mike Maimone in the meantime!
