Sam Smith is known for his soulful voice and heartbreaking music, and his latest single, "Too Good For Goodbyes," is no exception.

The music video features multiple LGBT couples attempting to make their relationships work while Smith sings of protecting his heart in anticipation of the end of a doomed romance.

Smith explained in a Beats 1 interview that the song is based on his own experiences.

"[The song is] about a relationship I was in and it’s basically about getting good at getting dumped," he explained. "What I've been through relationship-wise the last year has made me a lot stronger and I feel like I've learned some lessons from it."
