An Aaliyah x MAC Collection Is FINALLY Happening

Yesterday, MAC Cosmetics announced that they are set to release a limited-edition line of makeup inspired by popular singer/actress Aaliyah. The collection was made in response to a Change.org petition (that popped up over two years ago) urging makeup companies to honor the late singer with a line of cosmetics.

The announcement came just in time to honor the anniversary of Aaliyah's death, which was 16 years ago today.

Around the time of her untimely death, Aaliyah was a rising star who was about to hit the prime of her career. She had just released her critically-acclaimed third (and final) studio album, Aaliyah, in July 2001, and had just completed filming leading roles in the films Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned.  Just one month later, on August 25, 2001, Aaliyah and eight others died in a plane crash in the Bahamas.
