Out musician Rufus Wainwright's song "Going to a Town" might have been released in 2007, but it's more relevant than ever today. At the London Women's March on Saturday, January 21st British singer Lily Allen performed her own rendition of the song with a haunting arrangement by Mark Ronson, and now an official video has been released. Directed by Bafic, the video was shot at the London March, in which Lily also participated as a protestor against Donald Trump. The result is chillingly powerful:
"I'm going to a town that has already been burnt down
I'm going to a place that has already been disgraced
I'm gonna see some folks who have already been let down
I'm so tired of America"
The video features an in-depth look at the Women's March, including countless signs denouncing the Trump's policies as well as audio of the unified chanting in the crowd. Lily Allen's no stranger to politicized music, in fact, this rendition is fairly toned down for the star whose 2009 single "Fuck You" is about George W. Bush, according to an NME report on Lily's statements at an LA concert. "So you say It's not okay to be gay / Well, I think you're just evil," the anthem bluntly sings, and we couldn't agree more. We look forward to Lily Allen's continued musical resistance, and we'll be singing along.
