Kesha's performance on Saturday night at the Human Society's "To the Rescue!" Gala could not have been more powerful. The fact she would be covering Lady Gaga's Oscar-nominated song about sexual abuse, "Til It Happens To You," was intense enough, but accompanied only by co-writer Diane Warren on piano, Kesha immediately managed to flood the room with emotion and likely tears (if our reaction at home is any indication). "I want to dedicate this song to every man, woman, child, and animal that has ever been abused," Kesha starts before understandably choking up a bit on her first note. Soon her soaring, powerhouse vocals give way to a performance that will not be forgotten of a song that clearly means a lot to her as she very publicly struggles to break free from Sony and Dr. Luke, the producer she accused of sexually abusing her. Watch the performance here, and prepare to get emotional:
Kesha also posted about the importance of the evening on her Instagram, stating:
"THANK GOD for@ladygaga ❤ Till it happens to you ( written by the fucking genius @warren_diane + gaga) is such a vulnerable display of courage and hope. thank you both so much for bringing that message to the world in the form of such a beautiful song. it was an honor to perform it last night. we are so lucky to have you both. with enough guts, strength and truth, WE CAN change the system . when women empower each other instead of tear each other down, we can fucking change the world. the truth can't be stopped. love u girls❤"
And here's a picture of her look from the gala, where she's as gorgeous on the outside as she is inside!
We're fiercely inspired to see Kesha continue to be an unstoppable artist and speak out no matter stands in her way. She is undoubtedly one of the biggest role models in the industry today, and we couldn't love her more.
