Kesha Cries and Makes Us Cry While Accepting the HRC Visibility Award
Add this to the long list of reasons to love and adore Kesha Rose Sebert. The artist and long-time LGBT advocate was given the HRC Visibility Award at the 2010 Nashville Equality Dinner on Saturday night, and her heartfelt speech will make you all kinds of emotional. Kesha takes the stage around 9:30 (though you should definitely watch the introduction) and while she sometimes struggles to find the right words, she always finds her way to a perfect statement:
"Fame is strange, and unnatural, and I'm grateful for it mainly because it has put me in the position where I can actually do something positive for the world," she says, "And that is really the best part of it. I love writing songs and I love making music, but this is the most rewarding part of the entire process."
Kesha tears up while touching on some of the "personal things" she's been going through (namely, the recent loss of a lawsuit trying to break her contract with Sony after alleging her producer, Dr. Luke, drugged, abused, and assaulted her), but the speech stays positive, inspiring, and thoroughly genuine. Kesha goes on to discuss her "deep connection" to the LGBT community, and the incredibly importance of love, confidence, and being yourself. Watch singer Wrabel's introduction and Kesha's speech here:
Kesha continues to be an inspiration and we are so grateful for her light and positivity, especially during this difficult time. "We all have to fight for what's right, even if it's hard and the cards are stacked against us." Kesha says, "That is the only way that progress happens." We will continue to fight for and with Kesha, whose bravery has and will continue to make a difference in countless lives.
