The 34th annual edition of NewFest’s The New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival will feature some huge projects for attendees to experience.
The opening night of NewFest 2022 will kickstart with the world premiere of Mama’s Boy – the HBO documentary adaptation of Dustin Lance Black’s best-selling memoir Mama’s Boy: A Story From Our Americas. The doc was directed by Laurent Bouzereau. In turn, the festival’s closing night will feature Laura Poitras’ Venice Golden Lion award-winning documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.
Other notable screenings include My Policeman starring Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, and David Dawson, as well as The Inspection starring Jeremy Pope, Gabrielle Union, and Raúl Castillo. In fact, The Inspection filmmaker Elegance Bratton will be awarded this year’s Breakthrough Queer Visionary Award at NewFest 2022.
NewFest attendees will also get the chance to watch the first episode of HBO’s The White Lotus season two, which will mark the return of Emmy Award-winning actress Jennifer Coolidge in the series.
Other screenings at The New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival include Jordan Peele’s stop-motion horror comedy Wendell & Wild from Netflix, the Tanya Tucker documentary The Return of Tanya Tucker Featuring Brandi Carlile, the genderqueer musical Please Baby Please, and a sing-along event for the cult classic Xanadu, to name a few.
