A major film studio is FINALLY producing a romantic comedy about gay men!

Move over Love, Simon, the "first gay rom-com produced by a major studio" is headed to a theater near you next summer!

Executive produced, co-written, and starring Billy Eichner, Bros is "a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about finding sex, love, and romance amidst the madness," the official description reads.

"Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably stumbling towards love. Maybe. They're both very busy."

Eichner celebrated the win on social media. "In shocking news, BROS will be the first rom-com about gay men ever produced by a major studio and, apparently, I’m the first openly gay man to ever write and star in their own studio film. Only took 100 years! THANKS HOLLYWOOD!!!"

He followed up that tweet with another, "Also, f*ck my manager in 2006 who told me to be less gay because a big agent was coming to my show. F**KKKKKKK YOUUUUUUU!!! Ok I’ll shut up now."

Bros will be directed by Nicholas Stoller and produced by Judd Apatow.

It's unclear how 2018's teen rom-com Love, Simon fits into this narrative. At the time, that film was the first story lead by gay male characters picked up by a major studio, thanks to 20th Century Fox. Maybe twinks don't count as men? Who's to say!

Bros is set to premiere on August 12, 2022.
