Gay Dinner Party Turns Chaotic in First 'Boys in the Band' Trailer

"This is gonna be fun."

Pour a cocktail and settle in ladies, this is going to be a bumpy ride.

Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesús, Brian Hutchison, Michael Benjamin Washington, and Tuc Watkins star in Ryan Murphy's Netflix adaption of the iconic, Tony-Award winning play The Boys in the Band

The first trailer is here, and it is as messy as we dreamed. Parsons leads the cast as Michael ("When he's sober, he's dangerous. When he drinks, he's lethal."), who struggles with all the homophobia and self-loathing that comes along with being a gay man in the 1960s. He hosts a birthday party that quickly delves into madness when he challenges each person in the room to "call the one person we truly believe we have loved," including his straight college roommate who unexpectedly drops by.

The official description reads:

"In 1968 New York City - when being gay was still considered to be best kept behind closed doors - a group of friends gather for a raucous birthday party hosted by Michael, a screenwriter who spends and drinks too much, in honor of the sharp-dressed and sharp-tongued Harold.

Other partygoers include Donald, Michael’s former flame, now mired in self-analysis; Larry, a randy commercial artist living with Hank, a school teacher who has just left his wife; Bernard, a librarian tiptoeing around fraught codes of friendship alongside Emory, a decorator who never holds back; and a guileless hustler, hired to be Harold’s gift for the night. What begins as an evening of drinks and laughs gets upended when Alan, Michael’s straight-laced college roommate, shows up unexpectedly and each man is challenged to confront long-buried truths that threaten the foundation of the group’s tight bond."

The Boys in the Bandpremieres September 30 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below!
