Olivia Colman, Richard E. Grant, and Billy Porter were also honored in The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics’ acting categories.

GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics announced the winners of the 10th annual Dorian Awards this week.

The organization, made up of over 200 professional entertainment journalists, deemed the period piece The Favourite as Film of the Year.  The 18th-century satire also nabbed actress Olivia Colman the award for Film Performance of the Year — Actress for her portrayal of a queer Queen Anne and writers Deborah Davis and Tony Mcnamara the award for Screenplay of the Year.

Alfonso Cuaron earned the distinction of Director of the Year for his Spanish-language Netflix release Roma. The semi-autobiographical film, which Cuaron also wrote the screenplay for, was named Foreign Language Film of the Year.

Ethan Hawke was awarded Film Performance of the Year — Actor for First Reformed and recent Golden Globe-winner Regina King scored Film Performance of the Year — Supporting Actress for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.

The LGBTQ-centric drama Can You Ever Forgive Me? was honored with two Dorian Awards: LGBTQ Film of the Year and Film Performance of the Year — Supporting Actor for Richard E. Grant’s turn as gay drifter Jack Hock.

Three female-led thrillers were recognized in smaller categories: Annihilation earned Visually Striking Film of the Year, Steve McQueen’s heist film Widows was awarded Unsung Film of the Year, and the Anna Kendrick- and Blake Lively-helmed A Simple Favor took home Campy Flick of the Year.

On the television side, LGBTQ stories won big. Transgender-led Pose scored TV Drama of the Year and LGBTQ TV Show of the Year. It also earned Billy Porter TV Performance of the Year and helped earn producer/co-creator Ryan Murphy the claim to Wilde Artist of the Year, which honors "a truly groundbreaking force in film, stage and/or television".

Canadian export Schitt’s Creek was awarded with both TV Comedy of the Year and Unsung TV Show of the Year for its fourth season, which heavily focused on a same-sex relationship.

Additionally, Sandra Oh earned TV Performance of the Year — Actress for her portrayal of queer spy Eve Polastri in BBC's Killing Eve.

Lesbian comedian Hannah Gadsby, who made waves this year with her Netflix special Nanette, was named Wilde Wit of the Year for “a performer, writer or commentator whose observations both challenge and amuse.”

The society, comprised mostly of LGBTQ-identifying writers “and a few demonstrably committed ally journalists”, will present the awards Saturday with comedian and radio personality Frank DeCaro (The Daily Show, Sirius XM’s The Frank DeCaro Show) presiding as master of ceremonies at an invitation-only winners' toast.
