Oscars 2017 hit on Sunday, and we're still in awe of the ceremony.
The 89th Academy Awards were held this past Sunday, and the event was spectacular. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, a slew of shows were up for nominations: including musical La La Land, Jackie Kennedy biopic Jackie, and Disney animted film Zootopia. Suffice to say, the evening's nominations were intense: especially the Best Picture win at the end.
But it's not just the movies that made the night. Surrounding the event was the political backdrop of the American election, with President Donald Trump's roll back of trans school protection guidelines fresh on every guest's mind. Governor Mike Huckabee fired the first shot in the afternoon, complaining that celebrities would "spew ignorant political venom at Oscars [sic]" during the show. Kimmel wasn't about to hold back, either, making a joke about Trump's racist behavior. Political discussions and undertones continued throughout the night, both during the show and on Twitter.
\u201cWatch celebs spew ignorant political venom at Oscars?? Nah...think I'd rather have a colonoscopy. Both happen from same location.\u201d— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@Gov. Mike Huckabee) 1488135141
