They’re pretty heavy on the “awww” factor: Side-by-side photos of a lesbian couple when each woman was pregnant have gone viral.
Melanie and Vanessa Iris Roy of North Carolina posted the photos to Instagram about two months ago, but they’ve gotten the most attention in the past two weeks, The Huffington Post reports. One was taken “in January 2014 when Vanessa Iris was pregnant with their son Jax, and next in January 2015 while Melanie was carrying their daughter Ero,” HuffPo notes.
Something that helped the photos reach viral status was its sharing on a Brazilian LGBT group’s Facebook page, where it has received more than 150,000 likes. The original Instagram posting has about 7,000 likes.
Melanie Roy told HuffPo she’s surprised but pleased that others are considering her family an inspiration. “Vanessa and I have always said we would both like to carry,” she said. “The woman’s body is incredible. The way it creates and grows another human being is amazing. We hope that our picture is that sign that some women may need to encourage them to carry a child.”
