Why Young People Should Care About Marriage Equality

If you haven't been to a same-sex wedding, get ready because the invitations are in the mail. When SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States, duh!) ruled in favor of marriage equality, same-sex couples everywhere started planning their fun, elegant, and unapologetically gay ceremonies and wonderful receptions.

Now that the SCOTUS ruling is behind us, same-sex weddings are a stone’s throw away from bursting out of their closets into celebrations full of love, happiness, and bottomless mimosas.
Although some 20-somethings might not understand the importance of this monumental moment, they should most definitely care about marriage equality. And, here are three very simple reasons they should GAF:
1. You can finally marry whomever you love.
“To love and be loved in return” is a hugely important to pretty much every human being on the planet. And since we have marriage equality, you can finally marry one of these bad boys:

Or any of these lovely ladies:

2. Marriage equality could boost the economy.
For 20-somethings who work in hospitality, this could mean more dollars in your pocket. So if you're a business-minded type of yuppie (or yuccie), think of how many same-sex weddings are coming to a banquet hall near you. We see $$$ in your future.
3. Finally, we can move on and focus on other important issues.
Marriage equality is really important, but so are issues like education, affordable health care, and racial equality. Now that #SameLove is official, let's tackle something else.
