2012 was certainly quite a year for the LGBT community. We saw lots of memorable comings-out, such as the plethora of Olympians, including U.S. soccer player Megan Rapinoe. We declared victory for marriage equality in three states during the November election, and saw Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin elected as the first openly gay member of the U.S. Senate. We’ve come a long way since the time we feared arrest for simply having a cocktail together. The country loves us!
But let’s face it: if it weren’t for visibility across all kinds of media, we would surely not have advanced as fast - or as much - as we have. That’s why we find it so important to research and deliver the year’s most “wanted” LGBTs. In the coming week, we’ll be delivering lists of the most followed, most viewed, most liked, and most searched people within our community on the world’s most popular social media sites.
