A photo added to Kraft Nabisco’s Oreo cookie Facebook Page Monday in support of LGBT Pride has fans of the treat in a heated debate. The image (below) was uploaded with the caption “Proudly support love!” and several thousand of Oreo’s 27 million fans have something to say about it.
So far, the post has been shared 50,000 times, received 170,000 likes, and has nearly 23,000 comments, though not all are supportive. A number of the outraged people who commented included Bible quotes, and a large amount swore to boycott Oreo for supporting homosexuality or getting involved in politics. (View some of the backlash in the Facebook comments and Twitter responses on BuzzFeed.)
However, plenty of the comments were from Facebook users overjoyed to discover Oreo supports equality. Some comments came from people who say they don’t normally buy the product, but will add Oreos to their grocery lists going forward.
Sadly, the cookie in the photo is not available to purchase (how awesome would that be?), but that doesn’t mean we can’t all go show our Oreo Pride on the brand's Facebook and Twitter pages.
