Twitter (in usual fashion) lots its chill today when the hashtag #TheLiesWeTellKids started trending, where users looked back at all of the hilarious and off-the-wall things their parents probs lied to them about when they were young.

Although most of it was just people complaining and reminisicing about how their parents fronted about the existence of Santa or the tooth fairy, some of the gems in the tag included the amusing — and all too real — lies that many LGBT people were told as children.

Like the lies we hear that, despite the many, many struggles LGBT people go through, all people are "equal."

Or the tons of lies we hear about gender roles and the gender binary.

Kids get lied to all the time about the "wrongness" of being LGBT.

And how "it's just a phase."

Some LGBT kids got told by others what their sexuality was. As if other people knew better.

And some were probably even told the most heartbreaking lie ever...

What are some weird/funny/sad lies you remember being told while you were growing up LGBT? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter!
