I don’t know about you, but I feel like I can spot a lesbian in three seconds flat. This isn’t a learned trait that I acquired after coming out, or a new concept in society because flannel and Birkenstock jokes didn’t appear out of nowhere. However the style habits I’m talking about are far more detailed than a button-up or sandal.

These habits in question are seriously minuscule, but so on the money that once you know 'em and start seeing 'em, you’ll realize I’ve helped you step up your lesbian gaydar infinitely.

1. Sagging, baggy jeans.

Distinct from the boyfriend jean, these are just oversized skinnies or straights that are worn baggy and sagging. All I have to say is, y'all should have known about Ellen when Juno debuted. Y'all should have known (because I definitely was like ehhhhhhhhh saggy jean butt. lesbian).

2. Dirty sneakers.

I don’t know why this is the case, because I like my shoes clean just as much as the next person, but for some reason, lesbians don’t care about keeping their sneakers clean. I’ve realized lots of straight tomboys might fit this sneaker habit, so if you spot this, see #1, and if there’s no saggy butt, MOVE ON.

3. No bra with cotton shirts.

Very few straight women feel comfortable enough with their body/breast size/appearance to not wear a bra in public. Most queer women could give a fuck.

4. Leather or fabric wrap bracelets.

And no other jewelry except maybe a thumb ring. Minimal jewelry is definitely a lesbian thing, but the basic wrap bracelet (esp. in conjunction with a thumb ring) is a major giveaway.

5. Either no earrings or tons of mismatched earrings.

There is no in-between, but these are both major indicators of non-linear sexuality.

6. Shirts buttoned all the way up.

Definitely one of the newer habits of lesbians (and not exclusively worn by women identifying as lesbians, but definitely a noted habit of queer, bisexual and lesbian women) but if paired with rolled cuffs, I'd say it's as close to 100% sure as you can get.

7. Natural, dirty hair, that has an unexpected element to it.

makeout

Like an undercut, an asymmetrical line, or an un-trendy dye job. If you think to yourself, “huh, never seen that cut before on a woman,” she’s a lesbian (or a B/C list celebrity with a really edgy stylist).
