7 Ways Lesbian Homebodies Can Make Queer Friends
Being a homebody is fine and dandy, but when you’re trying to make more friends in the lesbian community, there’s basically nothing worse you could be doing for yourself.
Because first you're this:
And then you're this:
In the spirit of it being halfway through January and the fact that you (probably) haven’t even started at your 2016 New Year’s resolutions, here are a few realistic goals you can count as resolutions this year. Because let’s be real, you want more queer friends. Because we all do.
1. Find a place you don't dread that also regularly has queer women floating about.
You’re never going to find any queer female friends if you don’t go out at a place where they are AND you’re comfortable enough that you don’t seclude to a place that it becomes unfun for you. Or rub everyone there the wrong way.
2. Figure out friends you feel comfortable being out with and only force yourself to go out with them.
Which means if you don’t want to go out, don’t go. But if they are going out to a place where queer women will be and you still don’t want to go, GET UP AND GO. Even if you only stay for a little bit, it’s worth going.
3. Don’t get angry with yourself for saying no to things.
Because you can. Unless your queer peeps are going out, then go!
4. Promise to step out of your comfort zone at least once a month.
And make sure that “step” is somewhere in public, where gay women might be. Go to a monthly girl party at your fave gay club. Join a queer reading group. Do something that you can tolerate once a month, where you might be able to meet friends..
5. Set a “weekly outing” date with a friend.
This will not only strengthen your friendship but also make you more accountable to going out and doing something. Even if it’s the only time you go out, it’s worth it.
6. If you’re feeling saucy, get on a female dating app.
We suggest HER and we’re not even saying to start randomly talking to people. Just put in your profile you’re looking for make friends.
7. Commit to opening your mind to the idea of new friends, every single day.
We suggest you watching this affirmation video and copying suit exactly. Literally stand on your sink and tell yourself all the positive things and add in that you’re amazing and great enough to meet all the friends you want this year. Because you are. We believe in you! I believe in you.
