Last spring Blue is the Warmest Color won the Palme D’Or at Cannes, as did its stars Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos (making them the only women other than Jane Campion to ever win the Palme). The film is nothing short of epic -- chronicling a young lesbian’s coming of age while she falls deeply in love with a smoldering blue-haired artist.
While much of the recent news about Blue, out in theaters Oct. 25, has focused on a painfully public rift between the actresses and their director Abdellatif Kechiche, there’s another more heartwarming story that grew out of the grueling five-month shoot that included a full 10 days to shoot three raw, real, and extended sex scenes. Léa and Adèle bonded in a way that has made them fast and close friends (10 days of shooting sex scenes while sporting prosthetic vaginas will do that to friends).
Of the pair’s tight bond Léa told us in an interview this summer, “It's true that it’s a friendship, but there's love between us. You can say there's love.”
While combing through images for art for that interview we discovered that Léa and Adèle are truly adorable together, so we came up with 11 examples of them being adorable in real life!
The time they walked arm in arm to a luncheon with France's President.
The time Adèle wiped something off of Léa's face for her.
Or the time Adèle slapped Léa's butt before an interview at the Toronto International Film Fest.
The time they posed behind Abdellatif's back.
Or the time Léa reached across Abdellatif to hold Adèle's face.
Then there was the time Léa blew a kiss while Adèle did a "YAAAAS!" or a more likely a "OUIIIIIIIII"
There was that time they made us all jealous strolling on the French Riviera.
The time they kissed on the carpet and it was in black and white.
There was the time they give an interview on a patio at the Telluride Film Fest.
Or the time they held each other on the carpet and someone shot it from above.
But the best was the time they were so beyond adorable they made us wish they were a real couple.
