If the internet is any indication of how completely obsessed people are with (wo)man’s best friend, then it’s no surprise that you’re going to come in contact with a potential boo who might be obsessed with their own dog.

And there’s nothing wrong with a girl being obsessed with her dog. In fact, there are a variety of reasons why you should date that girl.

1. She obviously has her shit together enough to keep her dog alive.

As millennials who aren’t getting married or buying houses as young as our parents were, it’s a pretty big deal to find someone who has their proverbial “shit together.” And you can’t really have a dog and manage to schedule dates, unless you have your shit together.

2. She can care for something other than herself.

As stupid as this may sound, this is a HUGE plus. Knowing your girlfriend can care for herself isn’t something that you can confirm until you’re months into the relationship, unless she has a healthy, happy dog.

3. She has enough of a sense to budget for her dog and all that comes with them.

Although being financially responsible isn’t necessarily an issue that will crop up within the first months of dating, knowing that the person you’re seeing is financially responsible is and should be, a major relief to you. Because dogs aren’t cheap, and having one requires that person to budget for them.

4. She understands unconditional love.

Dogs love their owners unconditionally, which means love without pretext, expectation, or requirement. This sort of love is what you’re looking for in your lifelong partner, so for your crush to understand how this type of love works, by being obsessed with her pooch, is a great sign.

5. She has a nurturing side.

It takes a lot of time and tending to have a dog and being that women are already hard-wired to as the nurturing gender, having a dog is the closest adults can get before parenthood.

6. Health is on her mind.

Every dog owner worries about keeping their pup healthy and that constant awareness makes them more aware of their own health.
